Taunus region kickstarts the energy transition

gridX and greenblocks revolutionize energy management for households in the Rhine-Main region

  • greenblocks cooperates with gridX to become an energy transition pioneer.
  • greenblocks supplies the Rhine-Main region with new energy solutions – and in the future also with smart energy management.
  • In the first year, at least 1,000 households are to be equipped with the “liya” energy manager, after which greenblocks intends to gradually ramp up its activities.

Munich, 6 August 2024 – gridX, Europe's leading smart energy company, and greenblocks, a leading clean-tech company and expert in energy-efficient building refurbishment based in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe in the Rhine-Main region, have entered into a joint partnership. The two companies want to use their combined expertise to offer households between Frankfurt and Mannheim a comprehensive all-round carefree package for new energy solutions from a single source.

The all-in-one energy solution for the Rhine-Main region

“Our mission is to reduce our customers' energy costs for their homes to zero euros,” explains Mubariz Javaid, Managing Partner of greenblocks (formerly enerkeys). To enable his company to fulfill this mission, the team uses its extensive expertise in the interdisciplinary planning, installation and maintenance of private energy solutions. The core of the business is therefore the coupling of distributed energy resources (DERs), such as photovoltaic (PV) systems, battery storage, heat pumps and wallboxes with energy refurbishment. Through the cooperation with gridX, their offering will, in the future, be supplemented with a smart home energy management system (HEMS) based on gridX technology, called “liya”. “With our new all-in-one package, we are complementing the installation of DERs and energy-efficient refurbishment with digital intelligence. This gives customers a complete energy solution from a single source,” says Javaid.

“liya” digitally and intelligently connects distributed energy resources

The “liya” energy manager connects all locally-installed DERs with each other, allowing customers to not only maximize the usage of their own solar energy but to optimize all energy flows, from generation to consumption. On top of maximizing self-sufficiency, the optimal use of dynamic tariffs (time of use tariffs) will then also be possible. According to calculations by greenblocks, households in the Rhine-Main region will be able to significantly improve their energy efficiency in future: In the simulated scenario, it would therefore be possible to save up to 600 euros a month on energy costs for electricity, heating and mobility*. To ensure high quality standards, greenblocks will start by equipping 1,000 households with “liya” and a suitable energy setup in the first twelve months. Activities are then to be scaled up significantly over the following year. In this way, the company wants to ensure that even more households in the region have access to new energy solutions including intelligent energy management and can therefore enjoy smart, climate-friendly and affordable energy.

Comments on the gridX-greenblocks partnership

“The energy transition will not be successful if change only happens top-down. Other regional companies should follow the example of this ambitious company. With greenblocks, we have gained a strong partner from the Rhine-Main region – a region with huge potential that we will from now on be leveraging together. We are therefore delighted that our smart energy management solution is being used here and that gridX is thus significantly advancing the energy transition at household level,” says Tim Steinmetz, Managing Director and Chief Growth Officer at gridX.

“Our mission is to offer the most customer-oriented energy experience for households from a single source. With gridX, we have a partner at our side that ideally rounds off our range of services with its leading smart energy management technology. This enables us to offer our customers the optimal complete energy setup for their homes as a one-stop shop and first point of contact in the region,” says Mubariz Javaid, Managing Partner of greenblocks.

*The calculation is based on a household with a dynamic electricity tariff, its own PV generation, a heat pump, a wallbox and an electric car. The calculation was made for a period of 20 years.
